THE Ancient County of Berbice will see the kick-off of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Berbice Championship at the New Amsterdam Ferry (NA) Stelling tarmac this evening.
In a release to the media, Coordinator of the tournament, Phillip Carrington said, “It will be a very competitive tournament. All the players have been asking about it and looking forward to it.”
Carrington went on to say, “It’s a great tournament, and it has come at the right time because no football is being played countrywide and nothing has been played in Berbice since New Year’s Day so the players will get something to play and the public will get something to look at.”
It has been confirmed that 12 elimination matches will be staged on the opening night, with the resulting winners advancing to the round-of-16 stage to join the top four finishers from last year’s edition.
The teams that have earned a direct berth to the round-of-16 section are defending champs NA Kings, Mahaicony, Outsiders and East Bank Gunners.
