(CMC) – IN the wake of ball-tampering allegations against Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal, West Indies Test captain Jason Holder is keeping his focus on winning the ongoing three-match Test series.
Chandimal pleaded not guilty to attempting to change the condition of the ball during the second Test match which ended yesterday and is due to face a hearing by match referee Javagal Srinath.
Insisting that the International Cricket Council (ICC), as well as the match referees and officials, was more than capable of dealing with the issue, Holder said it was not his place to get involved.
“I don’t really want to get involved with that. It’s not my job. I think the match referees and the match officials have their jobs to do and obviously, the ICC has its job to do, but there’s been a lot going on with the situation … It’s not for me to get involved, I’m just here to play cricket and focus on winning this last Test match in Barbados,” he told members of the media moments after the Test match in St Lucia ended in a draw.
Holder said his only issue with the situation was the way in which it was handled.
Members of the Sri Lankan team refused to take to the field on the third day, following the ball-tampering charge, leading to a two-hour delay.
“To be honest I wasn’t aware of what was going on early in the morning and then we got some information of what was going on. Now obviously, we have seen what has transpired and what has come out of it. I choose not to get involved with it as the game is in the hands of the match referee.
“I was just a little disappointed in how it was handled because basically, we sat waiting around for two hours and not much information was given to us so it was a bit disappointing there, but I guess it’s in the hands of the match referee now,” Holder said.
