Mother, daughter died from fractured skulls

… Double murder and suicide at East Bank Berbice

THE mother and daughter who were hammered to death at the hands of the man who should have protected them died as a result of fractured skulls, reported Berbice Divisional Commander Lindon Alves.

On Wednesday, the double murder and suicide rocked the New Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, just before 10:00hrs, as Jainarine Seeraram called ‘Radio’ went berserk, hammering his wife of 22 years, Bidamatie called Kameel, and his married daughter Suraydai Khan, known as Aneila, before hanging himself under a dilapidated house about 500 metres away.

The post-mortem findings by Government Pathologist Dr Vivikanand Brijhmohan also disclosed that as a result of the injury, the victims went into shock, after their blood flowed continuously from their bodies.

The perpetrator’s 11-year-old son, Mahesh Seetram called Aaron, was watching television while his sister was asleep in a chair on the upper flat of the two-storey building .His mother lay in the hammock under the house as she had finished her domestic chores.

The child, who is awaiting Grade Six examinations results, recalled hearing his mother say “Move from here”. As he ran downstairs, he saw his father, as he attempted to lash him with a hammer. “I evaded him, and instead ran away. But as I ran, I saw my sister Aneila running down the stairs. My father took the hammer and lashed her behind her head. I then ran to my grandmother’s house telling her what happened.”

Following the incident, Suraydai was rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival, while her mother was discovered dead in a hammock at their home, minutes before.
The perpetrator was found hanging at a unoccupied house some 500 metres away.
