THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday handed over financial stipends to the nine Berbicians who are a part of the National women’s team.
Chairperson of the BCB Special Events Committee, Angela Haniff, handed over US$450 to the players who are expected to represent Guyana with pride, passion and discipline.
Foster spoke at length about the importance of discipline and the need for the nine players to look out for each other as they strive to bring glory to Guyana.
Foster informed the players that the tournaments would be vital to their cricketing career as outstanding individual performances could result in players being selected to represent the West Indies.
He assured the female players that the BCB would be investing heavily into their careers with special emphasis being placed on arranging coaching programmes, organising cricket tournaments and hosting personal developmental programmes.
The players who collected the $10 000 financial stipend were Katana Mentore, Tremayne Smartt, Sabrina Munroe, Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Shabika Gajnabi, Melanie Henry, Plaffiana Millington and Sheneta Grimmond.
The BCB president Hilbert Foster also announced that Berbice players who would represent Guyana at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels will also receive their financial stipends when the squad is announced.
The BCB’s total investment in the Stipend Programme would be approximately $400 000 for 2018. Berbice is the only cricket board that provides stipends for its players.
