THE Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will increase their focus of the development of its junior boxers in the next two months in the buildup to an international junior tournament to be held in Guyana in August.
The increased focus will see two Under-16 and junior competitions being staged each month as part of its preparation for the Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors tournament to be staged here from August 17-19.
It was revealed to the media by GBA president Steve Ninvalle, that AIBA Three Star coach Seabert Blake has been put in charge of organising the competitions the first of which is scheduled for Saturday (June 9) at the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis Gym.
These tournaments will also see the participation of newly installed gyms such as ‘Hands in Glove’ (Mahdia), ‘Savannah Gym’of Lethem and the Moruca Power Right Boxing Gym along with Bartica’s Blazing Rocket.
A special novice and beginner’s category has been added to the GBA’s programme specifically tailored to facilitate the participation of the newcomers.
The preparation competitions will commence at 13:00hrs on the stipulated days.
The GBA is preparing to host at least seven countries in August at the Schoolboys and Juniors championships.
The likes of Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Barbados and Jamaica are confirmed to attend the championships while the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Suriname and French Guiana are also expected.
