FLAMBOYANT hairstyles, costumes mimicking carnival, the flying of rainbow flags and chants of “equal rights and justice”, “LGBT rights are human rights… LGBT people are human beings” were some of the slogans that characterised Guyana’s first pride parade.

The parade, said to be the first in the English-speaking Caribbean, was slated to begin at 15:30hrs, but got started at approximately 16:45hrs due to some delays, but saw hundreds of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) persons assembling at Parade Ground before walking south on Carmichael Street under police escort and turning east into Church Street, South into Vlissengen Road and then culminating at the Square of the Revolution just after sunset.
