A 45-year old man of Whim village , Corentyne is the country’s latest road fatality following an accident early Sunday morning.

Dead is Doodnauth Sookraj ,  a cane harvester of 124, Whim , Corentyne.

Reports are that around 0130hrs on Sunday, a Toyota Premio hire car, bearing registration HC 4917, was proceeding east along the northern side of the Corentyne public road when the 26-year-old driver turned north into the Whim Access Road.

Sookraj , who was riding a bicycle , was proceeding south along the Whim Access Road when the right side front of the motor car collided with him. As a result, the man fell on the road surface. He was picked up in an unconscious state by the driver and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver was arrested and a breathalyzer test conducted found that he was above the legal limit. Police are investigating the accident.
