Taxi driver freed of ‘causing death’

Due to the lack of evidence, a 77-year-old taxi driver was on Friday freed by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman of the charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
John Haynes, of Second Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown, was on trial for driving his motor car HC 184, in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Morris Jeffrey on February 10 at Brickdam, Georgetown.

He was represented by attorney-at-law Adrian Thomas and the matter was prosecuted by Police Corporal Shawn Gonsalves.

According to reports, on the day in question, Haynes struck down Jeffery who at the time was crossing the Brickdam Public Road in the vicinity of the St. Stanislaus College.
