Taxi driver, 77, to know fate today

A 77-year-old taxi driver, who is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, will today (June 1) know his fate as Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman is set to make her ruling.
John Haynes of Second Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown, is on trial for driving his motorcar, HC 184, in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Morris Jeffrey on February 10, 2018 at Brickdam, Georgetown.
He denied the charge and was out on $200,000 bail. He is represented by attorney-at-law Adrian Thomas and the matter is being prosecuted by Police Corporal Shawn Gonsalves.
According to reports, on the day in question, Hayne struck down Jeffery who was crossing the Brickdam Public Road in the vicinity of St. Stanislaus College.
Haynes reportedly came out of his vehicle and picked up the licence plate which had broken off during the accident. He then drove away.
Based upon police investigations, the elderly man was later arrested and charged.
