Father, son remanded for murder

Magistrate Zamilla Ali who sits at the Sparendaam Court remanded to prison 23-year-old Andrew Singh and his 50-year-old father Suraj Singh for the murder Brayon Dewarkar aka Blackie of 128 South, Mon Repos East Coast Demerara, which happened last week Saturday.

The men were not allowed to plea to the indictable charge which read that between May 26 and 27 they murdered the 23-year-old at Mon Repos. Andrew told the court that he works as a mason and has no children. When asked if he had any previous matter before the court the man responded in the affirmative.

His father, Suraj Singh told the court that he is married and has three children. He described himself as a businessman. Both men reside at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. The senior Singh told the court that he and his son were locked away by the police and were unable to make contact with their lawyer regarding the court appearance.
The Magistrate however remanded the men to prison until June 26 and told them that they have enough time to secure the services of an attorney. The duo reportedly stabbed the Dewarkar to death while playing a ‘chic, chic board’ game during at a barbecue that was being held in the community at the time. Dewarkar reportedly died on the spot.
