AFTER hours of gruelling riding along the roadways in French Guiana and Suriname, Guyanese cyclist Jamual John managed to finish sixth overall at the Grand Prix Regional Cooperation Road Race.

In the U-23 category John rode over 411km in less than favourable weather conditions to finish the individual segment sixth overall.
First place was copped by French Guiana’s Robert Vercellino with the other top four places also being taken by Vercellino’s countrymen.

Michel Cadet was second while Dihan Will, Myron Stanis and Jean-Emmanuel Laurendot were third, fourth and fifth in that order.
Guyana’s other U-23 rider Curtis Dey had a couple of mishaps during the races and as a result could not finish. He crashed once in the second stage and twice again during the third.

Due to injuries sustained in the crashes, Dey complained of pain and was unable to continue racing.
Meanwhile, Paul DeNobrega, Paul Cho-wee-nam and Walter Grant-Stuart all finished their respective races.

Manager of the Guyanese contingent, Marc Sonaram, commended the riders for their valiant efforts noting that it was a good outing especially for John.
