THE Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is encouraging customers with outstanding debts to clear their outstanding balances during the ‘Sweet 16’ promotion.

“It’s an opportunity for us to put things right and encourage people to pay what you owe, so, we’re giving back also, as people pay us we are going to give back,” Dr. Richard Van-West Charles said.

The managing-director was speaking at the agency’s 16th anniversary commemoration last Friday. He reminded customers, as GWI focused on its accounts that they should not allow their debts to roll over into 2019.

“Going forward, GWI will be very proactive. If you owed us [before] 2015 and you have not paid it off by October 2018, the services will be removed.”

Customers, who are disconnected, going forward, will be required to re-establish the service as a new customer.

“We cannot be carrying over debt, because many customers come and present their debt of $200,000 and $300,000 and we have to find ways and means of dealing with that, but we want to be within the law,” Van-West Charles said.

He added: “So, we have a new approach of encouraging and working with customers, so you will be seeing this promotional approach as we go forward of trying to encourage customers to pay their debts across the country.”

GWI’s ongoing ‘Sweet 16’ promotion entitles customers, clearing at least $5000 in outstanding balances, an opportunity to win tickets to various Guyana Carnival events which will be held between May 18 and 27.

Drawings will take place every Monday until May 23.
