NORTH Georgetown and Parika Salem Secondary Schools won their respective Zone final when play in the 2017/2018 Guyana Cricket Board/Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited/National Sport Commission/National Secondary Schools Cricket League (GCB/DMLAS/NSC/NSSCL) continued last Friday.
North Georgetown completed an eight-wicket win over Mae’s at Everest ground while Parika Salem whipped Vergenoegen by 169 runs in the East Bank Essequibo Zone final.
North Georgetown’s decision to bowl first paid off, as they restricted Mae’s for just 74 in 23.3 overs.
Michael Pooran was the most destructive bowler for North Georgetown, grabbing 4-12 from 5.3 overs, while Trevor Rovan and Marvin Permaul picked up 2-9 and 2-6 respectively.
Ushandra Balgobin top-scored with 35 and was the only batsman to get into double figures. In reply, North Georgetown raced to 75-2 from 10.5 overs. Shivanad Gossain top-scored with 41. Balgobin picked up the two wickets for 24 runs.
Asked to bat, Parika Salem made good use of the apparent favourable batting track, by amassing 229-8 off their allotted 30 overs. All-rounder Travis Christian stroked an unbeaten 89, while all-rounder Wazim Mohamed contributed a composed 61. Bowling for Vergenoegen, Avinash Persaud took 3-42.
In reply, Vergenoegen were bowled out for a meagre 60 off 13.3 overs. Amos Baird made 18. Off-spinner Wazim Mohamed grabbed 7-16 including a helmet-trick. Fast bowler Travis Christian took 2-22.
Meanwhile, Parika Salem will meet Leguan Secondary at the Tuschen ground and Chase Academy will challenge Christ Church at the GNIC ground, to determine the North Georgetown Zone champions tomorrow.
