A major disaster was averted at the Ministry of Public Health offices on Brickdam on Saturday morning when alert driver, Ramdeo Kuarpaul observed smoke emanating from a section of the building.
Kuarpaul along with a security guard investigated the source of the smoke and discovered a fire at the ventilation fan above the washroom door of the ministry’s Personnel Department.
The driver immediately grabbed a bucket of water and threw it on the fire to quell the blaze and soon after firefighters arrived on the scene with three fire tenders. The fire was extinguished by then.
Investigators are currently trying to determine the cause of the blaze while a section of the ceiling was damaged .
