Berbice continue dominance with victory over Demerara; Select Under-17 beat Essequibo

In brilliant sunshine yesterday at the Lusignan Community Centre and Everest Cricket Club grounds, fans witnessed Berbice hammer Demerara and the Select Under-17 thrash Essequibo in round two of the 2018 GCB/Hand-in-Hand Insurance Under-19 One-Day Inter-county tournament.

Demerara won the toss and inserted Berbice to bat. Berbice compiled 224 all out in their allotted 50 overs.

Junior Sinclair top-scored with 61 off 101 balls; Javid Karim and Alex Algoo also added 45 and 23 respectively to the scorecard while Kevlon Anderson and Garfield Benjamin scored 22 runs each.

Bowling for Demerara, Qumar Torrington picked up 3 for 20; Ashmead Nedd 2 for 37, while Jeremiah Scott, Stephon Wilson, Dwain Dick and Saadiq Khan collected a wicket each.

Demerara, in reply, folded for only 105 in 38.1 overs. Adrian Hinds scored 32, Sephon Wilson 18; Robin Williams 16. Bowling for Berbice, Keith Simpson dominated, grabbing 4 wickets for 18 while Kevin Sinclair supported with 3 for 15.

Berbice won by 119 runs. Junior Sinclair took the man-of-the-match award for his brilliant knock of 61.

At Everest, Essequibo won the toss and decided to field. The Select Under-17 put up an acceptable 131 all out in 47.4 overs. Marvin Prashad top-scored with a solid 63 off 85 balls, hitting four sixes and five fours. Support came from captain Sachin Singh with 20 runs and Nigel Deodat 15.

Essequibo struggled to reach their target and crumbled for 60 off 40.5 overs. The Essequibo batting lineup fell cheaply, with only number ten batsman, Beesham Moses, able to reach double figures with 12 not out.

On the bowling table, Nigel Deodat was the most outstanding player, collecting 4 wickets for 17 runs, while Sheldon Charles and Seon Glasgow supported with 2 wickets for 12 and 5 runs respectively.

Select Under-17 won by 71 runs; Nigel Deodat was awarded the man-of-the-match trophy for his excellent restrictive bowling effort, which gave him 4 for 17 against the Essequibo team.

In the the third round Select Under-17 will battle with Demerara at the Everest ground while Berbice will face Essequibo at Tuschen ground.

All matches will commence at 09:00hrs.
