Floodlights prevail over Savage Masters
ON a beautiful Friday evening under lights, Floodlights defeated Savage Masters in a friendly T20 softball game in honor of the 64th birth anniversary of popular businessman,Ramesh Sunich, of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
Savage Masters won the toss and took first strike scoring 176 for 6 off their allotted overs. They lost two early wickets in Patrick Khan bowled by Reyaz Hussain for 13, and Troy Ramsaywack run out for 9. N. Baksh also followed shortly for 1 leaving Savage Masters in some trouble at 47 for 3. R. Perriera then joined opener Seeraj Bheemsain and blasted the ball to all parts of the ground in a partnership of 77 before Perriera was run out for 27. Bheemsain rallied with rest of the batting order to end on 94 not out and his team 176. Hussain, Rakesh Arjune and Petambar Maharaj took one wicket a piece.
In reply, Floodlights lost the prolific Uniss Yusuf early via the run out route for 2. Ramo Malone then joined Anil Beharry. Beharry started with a flurry of boundaries but struggled in the latter part of his innings. Malone took over and spanked the bowlers to all parts of the ground in making a robust 66 consisting of 3×6 and 7×4. Floodlights lost Malone and Beharry in quick succession causing the run rate to drop. However, Ramesh Narine, teamed up with Imtiaz Mohamed and took their team to victory with one ball to spare in an unbroken partnership of 60. Narine clobbered 4 sixes and 2 fours in a rapid unbeaten 44. Mohamed was not out on 15.
At the presentation ceremony, Steve Narine was voted best bowler and Malone best batsman for Floodlights. Bheemsain was the best batsman and Perriera best bowler for Savage Masters. There were also trophies for best fielder and best catch on both teams. Malone was Man of the Match.
