An elderly man, who days ago allegedly called the emergency 911 system at Brickdam Police Station and threatened the life of President David Granger , was remanded to prison on Monday.
Motilall Balkarran, 64 of Triumph, East Coast Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to prison until April 16.
The charges alleged that on March 20 , Balkarran made a call to the 911 system at the Brickdam Police Station threatening to kill President Granger by placing a bomb at his office at the Ministry of Presidency.
He was also charged for making use to threatening language by calling the emergency system line while threatening to take the life of the Head of State. He denied both charges.
His lawyer, Tiffany Jeffery argued that the police did not use voice recognition to identify theed called since there are several other person using the line which the call was placed on.
Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted citing the seriousness of the charge.
The Magistrate remanded Balkarran to prison and transferred the matter to the Sparendaam Magistrates’Court.
