RANKS from ‘C’ division (East Coast Demerara) in the wee hours of the morning on Friday caught three armed bandits napping in an intelligence-led operation in Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

According to the police, the operation resulted in the arrest of three men from Sophia, one of whom is a 16-year-old, and seizure of a .40 Taurus Pistol with six live rounds, two .32 special revolvers with four live rounds, and 70 grams of cannabis sativa.
The 16-year-old, the police say, is being investigated for an alleged robbery under arms committed on a resident of the Sophia on Thursday night.
The adults have been identified as 28-year-old Christopher Marques, and 40-year-old E. Crawford, both of Sophia.

Charges are expected to be laid soon upon the completion of police investigation.
When contacted, Divisional Commander, Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper confirmed the arrests, and urged that residents take a more active role in helping police their communities by reporting suspicious activities therein.

Noting that it’s a delicate balance between instilling trust and at the same time responding to crimes and actively working to prevent them even before they happen, Cooper said:
“But when communities feel like the local police department is invested in them, it creates a greater sense of trust. In these cases, community members are more likely to see something, say something, and contact their local law enforcement when something isn’t quite right in their neighbourhoods.

“They learn to see law enforcement as being there to serve and protect them from those who wish to do harm in their community.”
