GUYANA’S table tennis team suffered mixed fortunes, but for the squash team, things didn’t get according to plan, on Day Two of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Trenace Lowe, Priscilla Greaves and Natalie Cummings defeated Vanuatu 3 – 2, for their first win, following their opening day loss to England. However, the Guyanese women were humbled by Singapore 3 – 0 in the quarter-finals.
Like the women’s team, Christopher Franklin, Shemar Britton, Nigel Bryan and Joel Alleyne won their first game yesterday (Friday) 3 – 1 against Ghana, but folded 3 – 0 when they came up against Canada in the round-of-16.
Meanwhile, in squash, Jason Ray-Khalil went down in straight sets (7-11, 6-11, 9-11) to Jules Snagg of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the men’s singles plate round of 32.
Taylor Fernandes suffered a 3-11, 4-11, 4-11 loss to Sri Lanka’s Mihiliya Methsarani in the women’s singles plate quarter-final and Mary Fung-A-Fat suffered similar fate to Meagan Best of Barbados 3-11, 9-11, 8-11.
Over in swimming, Jamila Sanmoogan’s time of 28.86 seconds saw her finishing last in her 50 metres freestyle heats.
Sanmoogan will also compete in the 50 metres butterfly and 100 metres freestyle. (Rawle Toney)
