CHRONICLING the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport hosted an Easter presentation at the Umana Yana on Sunday evening.
The event themed “No Cross, No Crown” featured poetry, song, saxophone renditions, dance and dramatic pieces, all geared towards the celebration of which speaks to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This is the first time the ministry has hosted the programme and, according to Programme Coordinator Sharon Patterson, it aims to foster social cohesion among Guyanese despite their religious affiliation.
“This is in an effort to build a unified Guyana. What we want to do is to bring all of our diversities together… just like we would observe Youman Nabi and Diwali, Easter is central to the Christians and so we want to set aside time in the ministry’s calendar to present and let persons know what Easter is all about,” she said.

Present at the function was Minister of Citizenship Winston Felix, and other specially invited guests.
The programme was directed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Planning and International Engagement at the University of Guyana (UG), Dr. Barbara Reynolds, along with the assistance of several churches.
