National STEAM fair billed for April

THE National Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Fair 2018 will be held at St. Joseph High School, Woolford Avenue, Georgetown, from Wednesday, April 4 to Friday, April 6, 2018.

The theme for this year’s fair is: “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics paving the way for a Green and Sustainable Society.”

In a release, the Ministry of Education said that this biennial event provides an opportunity for the winners of each regional fair to showcase their efforts which resulted from creativity, research, enquiry and problem solving skills.

The fair is aimed at popularising Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in schools, colleges and in the wider society. Through this medium, young people are sensitised towards developing their confidence in applying science to build a strong foundation for National and Global Energy Management.
Exhibits from Primary, Lower and Upper Secondary, Sixth Form and Out of School will be highlighted in 24 categories including: Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Technology, Social and Behavioural Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

The participants will be given an opportunity to engage in scientific discussions at this event, as they explore the role of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in nation building. This aspect is an integral part of the STEAM fair programme which aims at developing better citizenry, as well as, foster and develop good communication skills.
Nicolette Henry, Minister of Education, will deliver the feature address and declare the fair open.
