Father of eight charged with forgery

FOLLOWING the discovery of a forged cheque that was provided to a furniture store over two months ago, a father of eight was arrested and charged after an investigation.
Fifty-three-year old Christopher Connel, stood before Magistrate Judy Latchman and denied the allegations against him.

It was alleged that on January 16 in Georgetown, Connel with the intent to defraud, obtained seven flat screen television sets from Sarfraz Allicock of the American Store.
He had paid with a check purportedly worth $1.1 M that stated that it had been issued by the Bank of Guyana (BoG) knowing that the cheque was forged.

It was further stated that the accused on the same day also handed over another forged cheque to the store. The store only picked up on the forgery when it attempted to have the cheques cashed.

Based on the police prosecutor having no objections to bail, that magistrate set bail at $300,000.
The matter was adjourned to April 6,
