A 51- year- old businessman of Providence, East Bank Demerara, was robbed of almost $200,000 over the weekend while standing on the roadway leading into the Meadow Bank wharf.

Reports indicate that the victim visited the wharf to conduct business and while standing on the southern side of the street the suspect who came from an eastern direction approached him, pulled out a hand gun from his pants waist and demanded that the businessman hand over all his belongings.

The businessman in an attempt to walk towards a crowded area was pushed onto the ground by the robber, who discharged a round into the air before relieving the man of cash and cellphone and escaped on foot.
The police who later visited the scene, recovered a .32 spent shell and took statements. An investigation is ongoing.
