Police say Bloomfield man struck by drunk driver

A 54-year-old man lost his life after he was struck down on the
Letter Kenny Public Road around 20:25hrs on Wednesday night.

Dead is  Donovan Bharomasi, of 86 Bloomfield Village, East Berbice-
Corentyne.This newspaper understands that Baromasi and his wife
Kamilawattie Mohipot were awaiting the arrival of their young son from
work when he met his demise.

The wife recalled she sat on a truck as her feet were very tired, so her husband stood by the road shoulder as they waited.

“I see a car come right up to he and just pick he up pitching him in
the air and drive away…I get up, but I didn’t see he so meh start
call for he but I didn’t get no answer. So I start walk up the road
there I see an object a good distance away and meh run run till me
reach”. She said as she searched for her husband she chased the
car until it disappeared.

“When me reach my husband he lay ben up on the road, his hands and
foot break and he had a big cut on his belly, his ribs them bruk up”.

Kevin Mohipot, the son, said when he arrived he found his father barely
breathing. In tears, the young man recalled he called out for help.

“After I called out [for] assistance nobody didn’t come out, so I run home
for my vehicle to drive to take him to the hospital, but by the time I
returned my father died”.

The young man called for justice as he noted his father was thrown 192
metres from the point of impact and there were no brake impressions on
the roadway to indicate that the driver made any attempt to render assistance.

Meanwhile, a police report stated that hire car HB 7178, driven by a
33-year-old resident of Rose Hall Town, was proceeding east
along the northern carriageway when a pedestrian reportedly walked
across the road from north to south into the path of the vehicle. The
driver who was intoxicated, remains in police custody.
