DEN Amstel football club picked up their fourth win of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League following their 2-1 result against Victoria Kings on Sunday evening while defending champions Guyana Defence Force (GDF) came from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against Buxton United.
Along with Western Tigers, the GDF football team are the only side in the Elite League to not record an ‘L’ so far, but when Denver Dennis netted in the 32nd minute for Buxton United, the defending champions seemed poised to end their unbeaten run.
However, as the game progressed, it took an Amos Ramsay strike in the 90th minute to earn the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship-bound GDF team a necessary draw.
The result meant that the GDF will advance to 14 points (four wins, two draws) in six matches but would remain in third place behind leaders Western Tigers (16) and Fruta Conquerors (15) while Buxton United improved to seven points (two wins, one draw, three losses).
Meanwhile, Den Amstel made a statement-win over East Coast of Demerara upstarts Victoria Kings, thanks to goals from their primary marksmen Gideon Payne (30th) and Delon Lanferman (80th).
Veteran Aubrey Gibson improved his tally to six goals, the most in the Elite League so far, when he scored for Victoria Kings in the 42nd minute.
The win placed Den Amstel in the fourth position on 13 points from seven outings (four wins, two losses and a draw) and Victoria Kings slipped to fifth position with 12 points (four wins, three losses).
The GFF Elite League will continue on Friday, March 23 at the Tucville ground, with Ann’s Grove taking on league favourites Western Tigers from 17:30hrs, and the home side Fruta Conquerors looking to take advantage of a hapless Cougars Football Club, who are yet to pick up a point in six outings this season.
