Bisram Sookram of Sisters Village,EBB, dealt his mother two chops to her head and left arm shortly after she had requested him to assist in washing his clothes. The mother explained that Sookram came out of the house with the cutlass and began weeding the yard, but she objected, since the yard was sprayed with chemicals. “He say he ain’t get clothes to wear, so I tell he come down to wash it. He come down and start chop chop the weed in the yard. I deh in the back cooking and I see he coming with the cutlass, not knowing he coming to me…he fire two shots to me.”

The woman said she tried to block the chops to other parts of her body and called out to the police who were stationed close by. The woman was picked up and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was treated and sent away. Responding to calls for help, officers from the Sisters Police Station promptly pursued the suspect who jumped into the Berbice River with the weapon in his hand.
