Agricola’s Lambert fires 7 goals in 2 matches
… Grove suffer defeat, Timehri move to third
IT WAS another productive weekend for leaders Agricola Red Triangle, who increased their advantage with back-to-back wins, as they maintained their unbeaten streak. Grove Hi Tech suffered their first loss, as they endured mixed fortunes when rivalry in the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) leg of the GFF/Pele Alumni Frank Watson U-15 Intra-Association League continued last Saturday and Sunday at the Timehri Red Ground.
Also in winners’ row were Herstelling Raiders, who also suffered mixed fortunes, Diamond Upsetters, Timehri Panthers, Swan and Mocha.
But the weekend belonged to Agricola and their leading forward Brian Lambert, who fired in a helmet-trick in their 5-1 win over Samatta Point/Kaneville on Saturday and followed up on Sunday with a hat-trick when they trounced Friendship 4-0.
Lambert’s seven-goal performance last weekend has taken him to the top spot on the goalscorers’ list with 15 goals in seven matches, overtaking Herstelling Raiders’ Shoran James who has 14 also from a similar number of matches.
Lambert netted in the 10th, 21st, 36th and 52nd minutes against Samatta Point with Leon Hope tucking in the other in the 51st minute. Samatta Point got their consolation goal from Matthew Austin in the 53rd minute.
The lone walkover at the weekend out of eight matches was recorded when Mocha did not show up for their match against Herstelling Raiders on Saturday.
Diamond Upsetters waltzed to their third win in seven matches when they stopped Soesdyke Falcons 3-1 on goals from Michael Pierre (18), Shafeek Russell (38) and Jamal Thomas in the 43rd minute.
Soesdyke had taken the lead in the 4th minute through a Tyrone Burnette goal. Timehri Panthers handed Grove Hi Tech their first loss of the league – a 6-0 whipping. Ishmael Pulsarran led the way with a hat-trick (28th, 68th, 69th), while there was one apiece for Yohance Reynolds (18), Prince Forde (30) and Tywell Lovell in the 44th minute.
Swan FC, based on the Linden Soesdyke Highway, posted their third win in six matches when they thumped Samatta Point/Kaneville 4-1 in the opening encounter on Sunday.
Azeem Calistro opened the proceedings in the 12th minute and was emulated by Joshua Joseph twice in the 22nd and 24th minutes before Kevin Daniels got his in the 35th minute. Jaden Forte was the lone scorer for Samatta Point in the 39th minute.
Agricola then took the field for their clash with Friendship and ran away comfortable 4-0 winners, led by Lambert with a hat-trick (5th, 11th, 13th), Brandon Narine converted the other goal on 39th minute.
Mocha Champs, who did not show up on Saturday ensured they did so on Sunday and took full points in their match against Soesdyke Falcons, 3-1. Mocha wasted little time in stamping their authority and within eight minutes had already put the game in the bag.
Kelvin Gordon (3rd), Genesis Lewis in the 5th and Jermaine Harry in the 8th minute netted for Mocha, Tyrone Burnette scored the lone goal for Soesdyke in the 31st minute. Grove rebounded well from their loss on Saturday to win an exciting duel against Herstelling Raiders, 2-1.
Herstelling had taken the lead through the energetic and lethal Shoran James in the 16th minute, his 14th goal of the league. But Grove, led by their captain and main defender Devon Padmore, were not in the mood to go down again.
Padmore netted the winning goal in the 32nd minute, his fifth of the league; but that was after the equalising effort of Jaden Isaacs in the 26th minute.
Eight more matches are carded for this weekend at the same venue, four each day.
