… Western Tigers remain unbeaten

GREGORY ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson and Ryan Hackett scored to give Fruta Conquerors a 2-0 win over Victoria Kings when action in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League continued on Sunday evening with a double-header at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.

It was the first defeat of the season for Victoria Kings, who, until then, had the only unblemished record in the league and sat atop the 10-team table.

In the other game played, Western Tigers’ 2-0 victory of Buxton United meant that, along with the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), they remain undefeated in the Elite League.
Heading into Sunday’s game, Victoria Kings coach Winston Pompey had told Chronicle Sport that his team will be focussed on maintaining their rich form of the league, especially coming up against one of the strongest sides this season – Fruta Conquerors.
However, things didn’t go according to plan for the East Coast Demerara team, given the fact that they allowed two goals minutes apart.

Latest point standings in the GFF Elite League

After playing to a scoreless first half, Fruta Conquerors scored their first goal in the 64th minute off the feet of Richardson on a goal-mouth scrimmage then Hackett rocketed home his team’s second in the 65th minute to hand the Tucville-based team a much-needed win, having lost their previous (2-1) to Western Tigers.

Meanwhile, coach Calvin Allen’s men were made to fight hard for their 2-0 win over Buxton United, and would want to thank their latest-signing Daniel Wilson and Hubert Pedro for the win which saw them propel to the top of the rankings with 10 points from three wins and a draw.

The defeat was Buxton’s third and their second consecutive this season from four outings.
Milerock FC also picked up their first win of the season recently, with a 1-0 result over Cougars. The Berbice side seem to be the whipping boys of the third installation of the Elite League, with 11 goals scored against them in four games, while only recording two of their own.

Delon Lanferman scored for the second time in as many outings for Den Amstel, helping the ‘West Side’ team to a 2-0 win over New Amsterdam United, to help put his second on the latest point standings with nine points. (Rawle Toney)
