Businesswoman, seamstress robbed in separate attacks

AN armed bandit who posed as a customer purchasing a bottle of drink and a pack of biscuits robbed a 61-year-old businesswoman in her shop at Courbane Park, Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Monday.

Reports indicate that the victim was in her shop when the suspect entered and ordered a bottle of drink and a pack of biscuits. As the victim was handing him the biscuits, the suspect held on to her hand, pulled out the firearm and demanded cash.

The businesswoman then raised an alarm and her husband responded and emptied the cash drawer and handed it over to the bandit.

The gunman then jumped into a white Toyota Allion motor car and made good his escape.

Meanwhile, on the same day, a 55-year-old seamstress of Gulf Road, Lusignan Pasture, ECD, was robbed of cash and documents by two robbers, one of whom was armed with a handgun on Urquhart Street, Kingston, Georgetown.

Inquiries revealed that the seamstress was walking on the road heading to conduct her business when two men on a motorcycle rode up behind her.

The pillion rider dismounted the motorcycle and approached her, pointing a firearm in her direction.

The robber then ordered the seamstress not to look at him and she complied. He then snatched her bag containing the money, jumped back onto the motorcycle and discharged a round into the air before making good his escape.
