Demerara beat defending champions Berbice by 15 runs

DEMERARA disposed of defending champions Berbice by 15 runs in the only game possible yesterday, when play in this year’s Guyana Cricket Board’s female Under-19 T20 Inter-county tournament commenced at the Everest Cricket Club ground.

While the first game between the GCB’s President’s XI and Demerara was washed out without a ball being bowled, the original fixture saw a change in the second round.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Demerara openers Mandy Mangru and Cacey Charles added 123 which eventually set the platform for the convincing win.

Charles was run-out for an impressive 60 while Mangru made a stroke-filled unbeaten 41. The partnership took the hosts to 124-1 when their allotted 20 overs expired.
Berbice then endured a tough run chase, reaching 109-9. Only Shabeka Gajnabi (29) and Sheneta Grimmond (24) offered any real resistance.

Yogeeta Ballkishun (3-27) caused the most damage. She received support from Mangru (2-8) and Cherry Ann Fraser (2-24).
The tournament concludes today with Demerara playing Berbice in the final round from 13:30hrs at Everest.
