IN what can be seen as an indication that the Police Force is gaining the public’s trust, on Friday, acting on information, ranks in ‘C’ Division went to an abandoned vehicle at Tony’s Drive, Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara and found a Taurus pistol with a magazine and six live matching rounds. Investigations are in progress.
Meanwhile, cops in recent times have been making significant progress in the recovery of stolen vehicles, as well as in the apprehension and prosecution of several alleged carjackers.
On November 04, 2017, a 66-year-old resident of Irving Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, was robbed of her Toyota Allion motorcar by three males as she was about to drive into her yard.
On Friday, the victim positively identified her stolen property which was impounded recently at an ‘A’ Division station. Her registration matched that of the engine and chassis numbers with the only exception being the colour, which was changed.
The said vehicle was found in possession of a male who claimed ownership and even produced a valid registration, but investigators had their own suspicions and impounded the vehicle, pending further investigations.
A short while later, the said driver along with another suspect were fingered in a series of armed robberies, during which some of the victims were relieved of their vehicles. The duo have since been charged and remanded.
