…bandit changed colour, produced valid registration
The Guyana Police Force said in recent times ranks have been making significant progress in the recovery of stolen vehicles as well as the apprehension and prosecution of several alleged carjackers.
The police said on November 04, 2017, 66-year-old, Ryhaan Shah a resident of Irving Street, Queenstown, Georgetown was robbed of her Toyota Allion motorcar by three males as she was about to drive into her yard.
However, on Friday Shah positively identified her stolen property which was impounded recently at an ‘A’ Division Station. Her registration matched that of the engine and chassis numbers with the only exception being the colour which was changed, the police release stated.
According to the police the said vehicle was found in possession of a male who claimed ownership and even produced a valid registration but investigators had their own suspicions and impounded the vehicle, pending further investigation. A short while later, the said driver along with another suspect were fingered in a series of armed robberies during which some of the victims were relieved of their vehicles. The duo has since been charged and remanded, however they will now face additional charges.
Additionally, police said another stolen vehicle has been traced and found impounded at the Brickdam Police Station more than six months after it was stolen during an armed robbery in Georgetown but with fake registration numbers and a colour change. On November 27 last the vehicle was intercepted with three persons following the robbery of two persons in Georgetown; they were charged but subsequently freed after their victims refused to offer evidence against them.
The driver (acquitted accused) made several unsuccessful attempts to uplift the vehicle since he had been unable to provide proof of ownership. However, on Friday the vehicle was positively identified by its owner and efforts are currently being made to have the suspect known as ‘Bourda Rat’ re-arrested and charged with the June 6,2017 carjacking committed on the Roxanne Burnham Garden resident.
