IN an effort to create an environment conducive to learning, infrastructural works at the Charity Secondary School, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) have been successfully completed. This was disclosed by Regional Executive Officer (REO), Rupert Hopkinson in an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI).

According to Hopkinson, the extension of the school now allows for six additional classrooms including a smart classroom that is fully equipped with audio/visual equipment and internet access. He noted that “the regional administration has not set a date for the official opening of the school,[but] it will not deter the administration from allowing the students to attend their classes.”

Originally, the compound housed two buildings which were renovated and converted into a secondary school in January 1990. Hopkinson said that the present infrastructural works, which cost approximately $16.8M, were necessary because the growing student population was being affected by sanitation and structural issues. Moreover, the student population which stood at just over 100 increased rapidly and in Year 2000 the former administration built a dormitory in the compound.

Of the $3.599 billion allocated to Region Two in the 2018 Budget, $1.894B was put towards the education sector. This allowed for the establishment of the Liberty Primary School; living quarters at Hackney Primary, a landing at Jacklow Primary, extension works to the Suddie Primary, Annex and the Good Hope, Fisher and Kabakaburi Primary Schools, apart from the Charity Secondary School. Hopkinson said works have been completed at the Kabakaburi and Liberty Primary Schools and a date is to be set for the official

commissioning of the two facilities. The REO mentioned that the regional administration has additional projects in the pipeline for this year and are also considering establishing a state-of-the-art school with the capacity to accommodate 1,500 students. (DPI)
