Suddie Hospital to get new $35M operating theatre

RESIDENTS of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) will no longer need to go to Georgetown to perform surgeries as regional administration will soon be spending $35M from its Capital budget to construct a new operating Theatre at the Suddie Public Hospital.

This announcement was made by the Regional Chairman, Devanand Ramdatt during an interview with media operatives recently. Ramdatt said the project is intended to benefit residents living in Region Two and also the Riverine communities. The Regional Chairman further stated that at the moment the theatre in place is in a deplorable condition and as such most emergency cases are transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). He however said that he admired the commitment and dedication from the staff and also the patience being displayed by residents.

“Most of the cases are being transferred to GPHC due to the condition of the Threatre. I admire the way staff at the hospital are handling the matter, as well as the patience that is being displayed by residents,” the Regional Chairman said.

When asked how soon the project is expected to commence, Ramdatt said it is based on the Regional Tender Board and how fast project is awarded. The chairman however hopes that the project can be awarded in a timely manner so that it will be done by mid of 2018. The Chairman further concluded that the construction of such facility will boost the region and will assist residents tremendously.
