Timehri drugs bust carries heavy sentence

CITY Magistrate Annett Singh on Monday sentenced a 43-year-old woman to three years in jail and fined her $3.8M for trafficking cocaine in 2016 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

Andrea Paula Winfield of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara was found guilty of attempting to take 2.548 kilograms of cocaine to Canada on December 16, 2016.

According to reports, on the day in question, the woman was nabbed after suspicions arose when she failed to give a Canadian address to a Customs Officer.

When her luggage was checked, the cocaine was found and she was arrested.
