–after falling from dilapidated building
A TWENTY-year-old is battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after falling from a dilapidated building on which he was working at the New Amsterdam Psychiatric Hospital, Fort Canje, East Berbice.
Reports are that Christopher Singh, of Lot 14, Maida, Corentyne, was employed by a private contractor to demolish the structure at the Psychiatric Hospital, and was in the process of removing a beam when he fell to the ground from the second floor.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 15:30hrs.The father of one was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where his condition was listed as critical. He is said to have suffered severe head and internal injuries and broken bones.
His father, Mr. Deonarine Singh, said Christopher has been working with the contractor for the past two weeks.
He told the Guyana Chronicle that he is praying for a full recovery of his son.
“Someone come by we yesterday and seh he had an accident, suh he mother and his wife rush go to see. Then they call tell he deh bad.”
Mr. Singh said that based on what he was told by his wife, who is in Georgetown to be close to their son, Christopher is not yet out of the woods. “He serious and not looking good,” the distraught parent said, between tears:
“He has his whole life in front of him; his son will be one year soon.He is a hard worker; always hustling… It is very unfortunate what happened.”
