Some Venezuelan women who were arrested during a raid conducted at the Aracari Resort, Vreed-en-Hoop, recently, have been charged and appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday for entering Guyana illegally.
Gilario Beltron, Inchra Milogros, Daniqie Martinez, Amber Orocopey, Andriena Alfronso and Yarilys Foucoult admitted that on December 15, 2017 at Eteringbang, Cuyuni River, they entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
The women with the aid of an interpreter told the court that they came to Guyana because of the crisis in Venezuela. They had no passports.
According to police reports, the women were arrested during a police raid at the Aracari Resort.
The magistrate fined the women $30,000 each or they would have to serve four weeks in jail. After paying the fine or serving the sentence, the women will be deported to Venezuela.
