Cops say robbery accused found under bed with gun

A 23-year-old armed robbery accused who was found hiding under a bed with a loaded firearm was on Friday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Sherwin Hinds of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, is accused of being armed with a gun on April 17, 2017 at East Ruimveldt and robbing Akeem Waterman of a gold chain and two cellphones, totalling $145,000 while making use of personal violence.

Hinds was further charged for being in possession of an unlicensed .32 pistol along with four live rounds on January 10 at East Ruimveldt. The miner denied all of the charges.
According to reports, on January 10 Waterman made a report of seeing his alleged robber Hinds in the East Ruimveldt area.

The police acting on that information went in search of Hinds and found him in a house in a bedroom hiding under a bed. The gun was found in his possession.
The magistrate remanded Hinds until February 2.
