A DRIVER is in police custody and his vehicle lodged at the Springlands Police Station after he crashed into a nine-year-old student of the Number 68 Primary School on Wednesday.
The student was identified as Christina Lakeram of Lot 111 Number 68 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. The 25-year-old driver of the taxi HC 7751 was identified as Seenarine Shamlall.
Reports indicate that the motorcar was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Number 68 Village Public Road at a fast rate of speed when the student suddenly run from east to west and into the path of the car.
She was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where she was treated and referred to the New Amsterdam Hospital for further treatment.
The child was eventually transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted.
