A 70-year-old man on Saturday morning died following an accident on the Danielstown Access Road, Essequibo Coast, which left his vehicle partially submerged in a nearby trench.
According to the police, Royston Peterson of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, was driving west along the southern driveway of the Danielstown Access Road around 22:00hrs on Friday when, in trying to negotiate a turn, he plunged into a trench.
Rendered unconscious, Peterson, who was smelling of alcohol, was rescued by passers-by and rushed to the Suddie Hospital, where he was treated and stabilised. Unfortunately, he died at around 05:45hrs on Saturday morning.
The other occupant of the vehicle miraculously escaped unhurt, and was able to confirm to the police that Peterson had indeed been drinking.
