A 40-year-old-man succumbed to head injuries he sustained after he jumped from the overpass at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Saturday afternoon.

Navin Surujpaul of Time Square, Grove EBD jumped from the structure about 15:30 hrs on Saturday. He was rushed to the nearby Diamond Hospital where he died while being treated by staff there.

The new structure is one of several which are being erected on the East Bank of Demerara.

Construction workers, who were busy on the other side of the road at the time of the incident , noted that there were several safety measures in place such a barriers . However , the man removed them and gained access.

The incident is being investigated by the authorities.
