THE police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 40-year-old man whose partly decomposed body was discovered at a house in Number 58 Village, East Berbice/Corentyne on Friday.
According to information, Jameer Ibrahim called “Wing” was last seen on Monday drinking at a friend’s house. He was discovered by the said friend on Thursday, who later alerted persons that the man’s body. Reports suggest Ibrahim and the friend are alcoholics who would consume alcohol for days.
A relative told this newspaper that Ibrahim suffers from epilepsy. He is of the opinion that Ibrahim had an episode and collapsed and died during the heavy drinking spree with his friend. According to a source, the friend told investigators he thought Ibrahim was asleep and it was only after he began smelling the stench that he went closer and saw his friend’s face covered with maggots .
Police have since arrested two persons, including the friend as an investigation continues. A post- mortem is expected to be done on Tuesday, since funeral parlours in the Berbice district have refused the body due to its advanced state of decomposition.
