GUYANA’S foremost tennis doubles tournament, the Trophy Stall Doubles, started last Saturday at the courts of the National Racquet Centre, thanks to the continued sponsorships of the event’s title sponsor Trophy Stall.
Celebrating its 8th edition, the annual tournament will close off activity on the tennis calendar in Guyana.
The tournament is the only exclusive doubles tournament on the Guyana Tennis Association’s (GLTA) calendar and is an opportunity for seasoned doubles players to take part in one of the most intense forms of the game.
Trophy Stall has been a valued partner in keeping this form of the game alive, proprietor of Trophy Stall, Ramesh Sunich, said while reflecting on the support received from the tennis community for many years.
Last year Sunich recognised the problems tennis is currently facing, but the association has continued to work with degrading facility and players endure the circumstances to have fun and engage in battle for the titles.
The tournament started last Saturday with action in a few matches in the ladies’ doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles categories. The tournament will also see competition in the Men’s Over-45 Doubles.
This year will provide high drama and battles as players strive to end their season strong and secure their spot at the top of the ranking table.
Coordinator for the tournament is Shelly Daly. All games will be played at the National Racquet Centre and Le Resouvenir.
