A BANDIT was disarmed during an attempted robbery on South Road, Bourda, Friday afternoon.

Police hailed as brave and courageous the action by the victim and two public-spirited citizens. The trio was able to disarm the bandit but he fled the scene on a waiting motorcycle.

According to a police statement, the firearm, a 9mm Ruger pistol with 12 live rounds were handed over to the police who responded promptly. The victim,a 46-year-old businessman was about to enter a store on South Road, Bourda about 15:45hrs having shortly before dropped off a customer at a city bank, when the bandit with firearm brandished, pounced and demanded that he hand over his money.

A struggle ensued and the victim held onto the weapon whilst two members of the public went to his assistance during which the suspect was disarmed. The suspect is currently being sought.
