THE cream of Guyana’s cyclists will be on show on Sunday when telecommunication giant DIGICEL partners with Team Evolution Cycle Club to run off the 6th edition of the Cancer Awareness Month which will be staged around the outer circuit of the National Park.
Several races are planned for the day with the first one being for staffers of DIGICEL Guyana. This will be a one-lap race.
The feature event on the day’s card is a 35-lap race that is open to seniors, juniors and invitational riders. This event is expected to attract the `big guns’ as they will all be seeking to pocket part of the spoils.
DIGICEL will be offering $900 000 in cash prizes for the programme which gets underway at 07:30hrs.
While it will be the 6th staging of the event, this will be the third consecutive year that DIGICEL will be partnering with Team Evolution to stage the activity.
The second event on the day’s programme is open to novices and mountain bikers with both categories of riders competing over five laps.
The veterans’ Under-45 years of age as well as Over-45 years of age will ride together for 20 laps.
The race wheels off from Irving Street, proceeds north to Carifesta Avenue, turns west to Camp Road, south to Thomas Road, and east to Irving Street.
The defending champion is Jamal John of Team Coco’s .
DIGICEL will match the registration fee collected by Team Evolution and will donate the entire sum to the Cancer Institute of Guyana.
