…centuries for Chanderpaul, Amir Khan, and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed; Upper Corentyne beat Georgetown by five wickets

WEST Berbice closed day two of their Franchise League game against Lower Corentyne on 69-1, replying to the visitors’ first innings total of 74-8 declared.
When the game eventually commenced at 14:45hrs at the Bush Lot ground, the hosts won the toss and asked Lower Corentyne to bat first; a decision which went in their favour.
Only Kelvon Anderson (24), Waheed Edwards (24), and Devon Clements (18), reached double figures for the visitors.
Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie claimed 5-8, before Lower Corentyne declared their first innings total at 74-8.
Alex Algoo (2), was the first to be dismissed, bowled by Stephen Harris before Motie got into the act on a wicket which produced enough bounce and turn for the spinners.
He removed Edwards at 44-2. Fellow spinner Krishandat Ramoo then claimed the wicket of Seon Hetymer without scoring and Clements before Motie destroyed the middle-order, with the wickets of Anderson, Sharaz Ramcharran (0), Kasim Khan (1), and Naill Smith (0), before the declaration came.
In reply, Rafael Estraido made a composed 42 before he was bowled by Kassim Khan just before the close.
Leon Andrews was unbeaten on 13.
Meanwhile, Upper Corentyne defeated Georgetown by five wickets to take an impressive jump on the points table, moving form 58 points to 78.7 and giving themselves a strong chance of gaining second place.
At Everest, East Coast were bowled out for 298. Amir Khan top scored with 104 while Kamesh Yadram fell for 99.
In reply, East Bank were 184-9, with Ronaldo Ali Mohamed unbeaten on 116. East Bank trail by 114 runs, with a day remaining.
At Tuschen, West Demerara replying to Essequibo’s 264 all out, were 81-5.
Earlier, Shivnarine Chanderpaul contributed an astonishing 119, Anthony Adams 37 and Chaitram Persaud with 40 for the tournament leaders. Chaitram Persaud has so far collected three wickets bowling for Essequibo.
