FOOD For The Poor Guyana (FFTP) Inc. on Wednesday donated a large quantity of paint to the Ministry of Education, as part of its ongoing collaboration with the entity.
THE donation totalling 825 gallons come in three colours: green, brown and orange, each in 275 gallons containers.
In handing over the paint, Food for the Poor’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kent Vincent noted that over the years, Food for the Poor has had an excellent relationship with the Ministry of Education and in the process, has donated a lot of items to the ministry. “We have donated a large quantity of books; computer training kits; school furniture, paint; tiles to schools; as well as we’ve contributed to the schools’ feeding programmes around the country,” he said, adding that the organisation has even built some nursery schools, or at least helped to rehabilitate some of them.
“So we believe, just like the ministry and most people – if not all, that education is the key to getting people out of poverty. So we are happy today, to be able to donate these three tanks of paint – green, brown and orange: 275 gallons in each tank, making a total of 825 gallons of paint,” Mr. Vincent said.
He recalled that FFTP’s field officer and some of their staff were out on the highway and visited some of the schools out there, when they noticed that some of them were in need of painting. “So we are happy to donate this. Maybe not only to assist on the Linden Highway, but wherever the ministry sees fit–to enhance the schools around our country,” the CEO said.
He expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education, Hon. Nicolette Henry and the Chief Education Officer, Mr. Marcel Hudson for being present at the ceremony and expressed the hope that “With God’s blessings, this wonderful relationship will continue over the years.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education extended thanks to Food for the Poor, stating: “I would certainly like to thank Food for the Poor for this donation. This is a symbol of partnership with the community and Education, and we believe that through strong partnership from all stakeholders we would certainly be able to have better outcomes in education.”
Noting that painting is an important part of infrastructural development, the minister said the ministry needs to ensure that students are in class rooms that meet the standard, so that they can have an environment that is conducive to learning. “And so I want to definitely take the opportunity to thank Food for the Poor. They have been a long time partner, not only in education, but many of the other sectors…”
