THE Ministry of the Presidency (MoTP) has refuted claims in a letter carried in the September 17 edition of the Kaieteur News (KN) headlined, “Granger and UG Vice-Chancellor should be held accountable for this young girl’s plight,” as false and malicious.
The letter asserted that “…Granger has been a life-long friend of Ivelaw Griffith and literally chaperoned him into the VC’s chair.”
The MoTP said these assertions have no basis in fact and the Ministry is, therefore, calling for an immediate retraction.
“While the Government of Guyana promotes and stands solidly behind press freedom, the Ministry of the Presidency calls on the Kaieteur News and all media houses to pay attention to the ethics and responsibilities that ought to be observed in the profession of journalism. The media must take its responsibility to provide accurate information to the members of the public seriously,” the MoTP said in a release.
