BOXING promoter Keith Bazilio, aka ‘Buckiloo,’ and his friend walked out of the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday as freemen after a drug trafficking charge was dismissed against them
Bazilio, 65, and Clinton Chase, 66, had the drug trafficking charge dismissed against them after City Magistrate Judy Latchman ruled in favour of a ‘no case submission’ made by the men’s attorneys.
The attorneys in their submission argued that that Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Kunyo Sandiford, failed to prove its case against the two defendants.
However, the boxing promoter’s son, Oliver Bazilio, 32, and Shemroy Robertson, 32, who were also jointly charged with the two men, were also on Tuesday, called upon by Magistrate Latchman to lead their defence in court. It was after she had ruled that a prima facie case was made out against them.
The men are on trial for the charge which alleged that on March 6, they were in possession of 4.734 kilograms (equivalent to 10.4 pounds) of cannabis for trafficking, at 261 Blue Sackie Drive, South Ruimveldt.
During the search of the Ruimveldt home that day, different batches of narcotics were retrieved from a wardrobe in the bedroom, in a stove in the kitchen and on the person of Robertson and Oliver Bazilio.
Oliver Bazilio was also separately charged with being in possession of 10 grammes of cannabis. He also denied this charge.
A separate charge was also read to Robertson, a real estate agent of 101 Mandela Avenue, for the alleged possession of 440 grammes of cannabis for trafficking. He pleaded not guilty. The matters are being heard jointly.
Robertson is presently on $600,000 bail pending trial in the High Court for cocaine possession in another matter.
