TWO farmers, who got physical over $200 worth of eddo leaves, were each fined $25,000 when they appeared in the Linden Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Clive Nurse.
It is alleged that Gregory Elexey and Trevor Pilgrim, both of Victory Valley Wismar, Linden, unlawfully and maliciously wounded each other on August 21, 2017. Both men pleaded guilty to the offence. According to Police Prosecutor Pindar, the two farmers are known to each other.
On the day in question, about 08:20h, the farmers were in Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, when they became engaged in a heated argument over G$200 worth of eddo leaves. They eventually started pelting each other with bricks and as a result they both sustained injuries. Pilgrim subsequently lodged a report at the Wismar Police Station from where he was sent to the Wismar Hospital to procure a medical certificate.
Elexey who was contacted afterwards was also sent to the Wismar Hospital for a medical. Following an investigation carried out by the Police and both Pilgrim and Elexey were charged. They made an appearance before Magistrate Nurse who imposed the fines. Failure to pay will result in them spending the next four weeks in prison.
Elexey, age 47, is a first time offender unlike Pilgrim, age 56, who is no stranger to the court.
